Last weekend I have been privileged to attend not one but two parties that shared a common theme: celebration. In both events we were celebrating individuals one starting a new life through retirement and a friend who died a few years ago and would have been 60 this year.
What does that have to do with business and why do I feel compelled to talk about it here. Well I guess what I noticed when I finally got back home was just how happy and energised I felt; how celebrating work achievements or simply the life of someone generated a feel good factor that rippled out and touched everyone and buoyed me all week. I had forgotten just how powerful celebration could be and how helpful it was to take the time to savour it.
In business we are often so focussed on going forward, delivering on business objectives, removing obstacles that slow us down, that we often barely notice the successes we achieve along the way. By success I don’t just mean getting a new client, but all the steps we take to get us there. When I consider how powerful, energising, motivating even, celebrating success is, I just wonder if in our hectic lives, just spending a few minutes each day celebrating what we have achieved is just what the doctor ordered to keep motivation levels up and build a flourishing business.
I cannot quantify the rate of Return On Investment (ROI), but if you have ever experienced just how good celebrating success makes you feel and how much it drives you to do more, I think you will agree taking the time to do so is an empowering, as well as enjoyable, way to achieve success.
