The following is a guest post from Helene Cooper, accredited Coach-Mentor:
Loneliness is increasing, and especially in the young. This interesting article on the BBC website stopped me in my tracks this morning. It looks like the new generation so quick and able at building online relationships, have not mastered the skills to do it in real life and they are feeling lonely.
When observing the role models we adults provide them with, I am not surprised. As an independent consultant, I used to attend a large number of networking events. No matter what the group, they often shared a common problem; weak relationship building skills amongst many of the participants.
If we cannot master those skills, at best the networking events we attend become a waste of time and money, at worst we are failing to help a new generation build essential life skills.
