As a relatively new entry into the solo business world (I’ve worked in large corporate business for 17 years), I have struggled with the challenge of having to do everything myself. No longer have I had the opportunity to pick up the phone or drop a quick email to someone else in the team to do something for me or follow up on an idea. It’s all been down to me and that can be really frustrating and slow. So slow at times, I’ve wondered what I’ve been able to achieve at the end of a working day.
So it comes as a real delight to delegate the work to people and other businesses that know what they are doing and are experts in their field. One such company I have been working with are The Adword Advisor who has been helping develop my Google Analytics and SEO optimisation for my website. Now, to be honest I have a healthy disrespect for anything I deem to be too IT technical (don’t tell my IT Consultant husband that!). But, working with Jayne and her team has been straight forward and used no gobbledygook language.
As a result I have been able to work on what’s important for me, my coaching business, and left the technical stuff to those who know. But beyond that I have realised the added value of their expertise. They have opened up new possibilities of how to reach my target audience that I would never have grasped by myself.
My passion is coaching Finance professionals in business. That’s my personal expertise and where I should place most of my working energies. When I worked as a Finance Director in a FMCG company, I didn’t roll up my sleeves and overhaul the production line in the factory. That was the Engineering teams responsibility and field of excellence.
So, why should I expect a solo business to any different to corporate life? It isn’t. The only difference is that now I work with different business experts from different companies, rather than different departments down the corridor.
