This post continues from AdWord Myth#4: Google AdWords Is Too Expensive For My Business.
As Google’s own help files say: “Please note that your participation in AdWords will not affect the ranking or inclusion of your site in the Google search index.”
I’ve seen people in various places claim that big spending advertisers are rewarded with higher natural search rankings – which makes results less relevant.
I suspect these people are confusing cause and effect – a business with a large budget for advertising probably has a large budget for website optimisation as well. So it’s not surprising that you see them high up in the natural listings!
They are also overlooking one major fact – Google maintains its position as the most popular search engine only as long as searchers find what they are looking for.
To deliberately make search results less relevant would risk sending those searchers to other search engines and so would be a very bad business decision.
That’s the last of my AdWords Myth series, so now I will have to think of something new. If you have any questions you’d like me to answer, let me know – Jayne@AdwordAdviser.com
