Two and a half stone later

2.5 stone later

Last June I suddenly realised that an invitation from Ute to Royal Ascot left me in a real dilemma. I hadn’t got a thing to wear. Really, truly, not a thing!

So I got a dress made to fit. I had great fun selecting a pattern that disguised my stomach and lack of waist, and choosing material that went with an existing hat, handbag and shoes.

I still remember going for a fitting and seeing the dress taken off the tailor’s dummy. I thought “surely that’s too big, it looks like a tent – ah yes, that’s so she can take it in so that it will fit me properly”.

But the tent was tight!

That was a real wake up call and I decided to something about it, even though the clever seamstress had done wonders and I didn’t look half as bad as I really was.

Deciding to take matters into my hands, I needed to find something that would really work. It wasn’t worth bothering with fancy drinks, processed diet meals and denying chocolate, etc. I needed to really understand why I had got so fat, and find a solution I could continue on a permanent basis.

You see, this wasn’t going to be a one-off diet, this was going to be a life change! And that could only be accomplished if I really understood the science behind it.

I won’t bore you with the details, but now I understand what had been missing as well as what had been too much. There needs to be a balance in everything you do; vacuums cannot exist as there’s always something trying to fill them – and that’s OK as long as it’s the right sort of thing doing the filling!

So six months later and two and a half stone lighter (it could have been more, but I’ve had many distractions on the way) that dress really does look like the tent it was designed not to be.

And the empty voids in my life are now full with the good things that really benefit me. Christmas showed me how easy it is to slip backwards, to find your hard work slowly coming undone, but with renewed focus and determination I shall be able to advance forward with renewed vigour and intentions (as well as reaching my desired weight ready for a new wardrobe of summer clothes!).
